My logic for letting him take the optional jabs is this: prevention is better than cure and regret. Since there is a vaccine out there to prevent certain fatal childhood illness, just take it like a form of insurance;) Apart from that, our baby goes to church every week and we take him out regularly too so the risk is there.
He took his 5-in-1 in Yishun polyclinic and all jabs were administered by nurses. The waiting time was bearable for the first two visits but was a little long for the third visit due to some screw up by a trainee nurse. We like the nurse who administered the first 2 jabs as she was friendly and chatty. The one who gave his last jab was more rigid and did not allow Isaac to measure his height as it was NOT REQUIRED...well..follow the book to a tee...what to do..LOL
The GP who administered the pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccine was a long time family doctor of my parents. She is a very approachable Christian GP and we always have a lot to talk about during the consultation.
How was Isaac's overall experience with his vaccination?
Well...he took it like a real man...LOL. For the 5-in-1, he merely let out a yell for all 3 jabs and did not cry. For the pneumococcal jab, his crying lasted for less than 2 mins immediately after his jab and he was smiling at the GP minutes after. I reckon the pneumococcal jab was more painful than the 5-in-1.
I am glad that he can take a break from vaccination after the hep B jab next month.
At 5 months, he weighs 6.6kg and is 65cm tall.
