Daddy playing with Isaac in the hotel bathtub
Ah Nei with Isaac
Grandpa and Grandma with Isaac
Mummy and Isaac in Suria KLCC
We brought little Isaac on a road trip to Kuala Lumpur over the National Day long weekend. My parents and Mother-in-Law tagged along for some KL shopping. This was Isaac's second trip to Malaysia, the first being a day trip to Johor Bahru in July. We were really happy that he could sleep in the car for about half of the 300km over distance. The rest of the time was spent playing with mummy, Grandmas and Grandpa. He only fussed during his milk feed and for the duration when we were caught in heavy traffic jam along the North-South Highway.
We enjoyed our hotel stay in Novotel and managed to get a free upgrade to junior suite...Yipee!!! Isaac played in the bathtub two days in a row and could not get enough of it. He slept well in the provided baby cot and flipped happily in the king sized bed whenever we put him on our bed...Hahaha.
We covered Pavilion, Isetan, Suria KLCC and Chinatown during our short 3D2N trip. It was a fruitful shopping trip for the Grandmas, especially at Isetan and the Bata Shop in Pavilion. Mummy did minimal shopping but manage to buy a pair of flat and one pair of low heel. The rest of the shopping was focused on babywear, diaper and baby toiletries.....LOL. What a change in shopping priority since we became parents! Need to mention that my little baby is a shopping monster, he loves to shop and enjoys looking around in shopping malls, he is never cranky during shopping and can go without milk feed as long as he has things to see..LOL. We were really glad that Suria KLCC provides rented stroller for free for the first 2 hours..save us the hassle of bringing out the stroller;)
The trip was enjoyable except for the Chinatown experience which really put us off. Daddy and mummy were never great fans of the infamous Chinatown but the elderly wanted to go(no choice lor). We made a evening trip to Chinatown after warning everyone not to bring extra cash and valuables, and to be very careful with their handbags and wallets. The KL Chinatown was crowded and dirty as expected, but the worst part was a wrong decision to bring the stroller along. Navigating the stroller through the narrow walkway in the busy and crowded night shopping street was no joke. We could not really stop to check out the individual stalls because the stroller was in the way of human traffic most of the time. All we could do was to keep walking until we could find an opening to access the more spacious shops alongside the night shopping streets. The side walks are wider but they are full of steps..so you can imagine how tired daddy and mummy were. That was not the most terrible part.
We wanted to leave the place immediately after the elderly purchased the cheap stuff and pastries they wanted, as Isaac was sleepy and hungry by then and we did not like the smoky environment. Daddy flagged down a taxi driven by a Chinese driver, thinking it was probably safer for mummy, Isaac and my parents while he took another taxi with my mother-in-law driven by an Indian driver. Little did he know, the Chinese driver had some dirty tricks up his sleeves. First, he asked for a flat RM15 fee for the journey back to our hotel and did not want to on his meter. We are fine with it as long as he gets us back to our hotel fast. Then, he got us into nerve racking traffic jam intentionally(Daddy's taxi did not even have to go through a jam)and drove recklessly. My heart almost popped, seeing how he dangerously cut into other motorists' lane. I was holding on to Isaac as tightly as I could. After he made an illegal and dangerous u-turn, he stopped his taxi in front of a wrong hotel claiming that it was the hotel Daddy mentioned to him(obviously not the case). When I told him of his mistake, he refused to bulge and refused to ferry us to the right hotel. I had to pay him extra for him to continue the drive. Shortly after, Daddy called us to inform that they had arrived at our hotel since a while ago(I knew we were in trouble). True enough, our taxi driver next drove us to a shortcut road by mounting kerb(!!!) and our hotel was in view minutes after he took the shortcut. Then guess what. Our gungho taxi guy claimed that it was not the Novotel hotel we stayed in and refused to let us alight!!! He insisted that he knew the way to our hotel while we watched him drive past it. I insisted that he made a u-turn back to our hotel. He kept arguing that he knew the right way and I got it wrong while he drove us further and further away from Novotel. That was the last straw for me. As we were in a jam and was just beside Pavilion, I shouted for him to stop the car, opened the taxi door, threw him the ringgit I promised to give him and alighted the taxi with my parents. I was fuming mad that he intentionally drove us in circles(he must be thinking that he can get more money out of us before driving us to our hotel. Gosh) It was a good thing I was familiar with my hotel surroundings and the roads leading to it. Well, don't think I will be visiting KL Chinatown or taking taxi in KL in the near future. What a terrible experience! The only good thing was Isaac sleeping through the taxi episode..phew!!!
The trip was a success to us, considering how well our little Isaac cope with the long road trip, hotel stay and shopping sprees. Well done, my boy! I am looking forward to fly with my boy to other destinations;)
